Changes in Social & Email have made it more difficult for Artists to get more Attention with their Art. Not paying Social is the dumbest thing you can do. Not studying how to do this is Equally dumb. [This is the ‘No BS’ way of saying it] Because You’ll need to GROW Your List. Here’s why:
You’ll need to Grow Your List. You do this by Growing Attention, resulting into Growth of Traffic, which you then need to Convert in Growth of Leads, Opt-ins. So you’ll have enough EYES on your Art Products, so you’ll sell Enough. Not doing this will be the reason for not making enough $.
There’s a reason why you would be smart to take a lot of Promotion into your own hands. I know of a few Galleries who don’t send out (snail mail) invites anymore. They rely on email only. Two years ago this might have worked. Nowadays the ‘FOLLOW UP’ (the relationship you have with your list) in email might be more important than the occasional newsletter or email ‘invite’. Inboxes are filled and the Promotions tab in Gmail is cluttered to the max. A PDF ‘invite attachment’ is equally invisible. Did you know actual -PAPER- invites have a 80% higher “OPEN RATE” compared to email?
You might be smart to build a List of Contacts Yourself. You can then at least control the Promotion side of your Art yourself.
Then there’s another troubling fact: I see most galleries NOT invest in Facebook/Instagram/Pintrest advertising. MY GOD! There the opportunities lay NOW. Yes, they might ‘investigate it later down the road’, but there’s no doubt, what works today, and what’s affordable today, tomorrow it might not work anymore. What is sure: it won’t get any cheaper.
You -as an artist- should be smarter than that.
